2017 saw the publication of Joe Strike’s Furry Nation – not just the first look at furry fandom’s birth and history, and the people who made it happen, but the first history from a mainstream publisher with mainstream distribution.
Now Joe is hoping to repeat that success with Furry Planet, due out in February from Apollo Publishers. In addition to new looks at key players and contributors to Furry, Furry Planet will examine mainstream anthropomorphism: the painters, authors and entertainers whose works feature anthropomorphic characters, and in particular, the many “performance artists” who “become” animals by creating and wearing their own fursuits and performing for avant-garde audiences.
Joe will show examples of these creators’ works and explain why it was important for him to reach a non-furry audience via mainstream publishers to counteract the myths and misconceptions many still hold about the furry community.
